One of the things I like about this game so far, is that investigative element and how you as the player must track key information to build up your case and solve the mystery. Unlike most other TTRPG’s, where it’s about leveling your character, accumulation of treasure, magic items, weapons and armour, Blade Runner focuses you on accumulating the appropriate information to further the investigation, and in the meantime building more on the life, and growth of your character.
The game provides the players and the Game Runner with some tracker sheets specific to keep the investigative element going and organized.
The Case File Time Tracker and the Case File Report. These I will use here on this substack to inform you of what has happened during the play session, and keep track for me the case information found by the character, and not what I may have read ahead in the Case File itself, keeping separate my knowledge versus what the character would know.
Let’s take a look at the Case File Time Tracker. Here you’ll see, after the two video’s, Novak and Fenna have completed 2 Shifts. As stated in the Case File itself, each location and time spent there represents 1 Shift. Here is what it looks tracker looks like so far:
It’s an important element of the game that you as a Solo-Player and as a Game Runner for a group to keep track of the time during the case. The Case File identifies key elements or events that are to be played regardless of what the characters have found out or where they are. This keeps the story going and events to happen regardless of player action (or inaction). I like this element, and we’ll see how it plays out during the rest of the solo-play!
Next up, we have the on-going case report. Information and evidence that has been found during an on-going investigation “must” be uploaded to the LAPD Database for review by your superior officer. Key word is “Must”. Normally, there is no reason to hide valuable intel and evidence, however there may be items that you as the character want hidden, and thus this should be identified. As you see in the following “uploaded” on-going case report, Novak has given all information as is known so far. Will this change? We’ll have to wait and find out as the case progresses!
Here is a quick tracker that I’m using to tally increasing or decreasing Health, Resolve, Promotion, Humanity and Chinyen Points, with some quick notes of why a value was changed.
Here is what the character sheet looks like at the end of Shifts 1 and 2 of play:
That is what I’ve done so far in character (and out).
Now on to the next Shift!
Cheers,
